Harvard Business School Publishing Selects Endeca for Improved Search and Navigation of Extensive Content

Endeca ProFind Being Implemented for Search and Guided Navigation of Large, Diverse Content Repository

Cambridge, Mass., October 06, 2003 Endeca, the only provider of advanced search and Guided Navigation solutions, today announced that Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP) has chosen Endeca to provide search and navigation for the company’s business content database. Endeca ProFind was selected for search of HBSP’s content catalog, including the Harvard Business School Case Study collection, because of its unique capability to find relevant results in a large repository of both structured and unstructured information, and its compatibility with the Documentum enterprise content management platform.

HBSP, a wholly-owned, not-for-profit subsidiary of Harvard University, is the publisher of Harvard Business Review, as well as books from Harvard Business School Press, a portfolio of newsletters, conferences, online and interactive programs for management development from Harvard Business School Publishing eLearning, and case studies from Harvard Business School and other leading academic institutions.

Endeca ProFind will be used as the primary search and navigation application for HBSP's complete content database, including the Harvard Business School Case Studies Collection. The case studies are housed in a Documentum content management repository, which contains a large variety of structured and unstructured content. Endeca ProFind is designed to leverage this content by enabling fast and easy-to-use searching of Documentum content. Endeca ProFind will improve overall customer self-service by allowing faculty and students around the world to quickly find and select the most pertinent case studies for their class curriculum, studies or reference.

"The HBSP content database is a vast repository of intellectual capital that is published across a number of platforms and delivery channels to meet the needs of thousands of HBSP customers each day," said Scott Lubeck, CTO of Harvard Business School Publishing. "Endeca ProFind will complement our existing Documentum platform, helping us leverage the value of this content by making it more accessible to users."

"We are pleased to be working with Harvard Business School Publishing. The HBSP content database is a wonderful example of a repository that will benefit from Endeca ProFind’s unique ability to allow users a quick and accurate way to search volumes of information in multiple formats," said Jim Baum, president and COO of Endeca. "HBSP clearly understands that the value and potential of its content will increase if users can more easily find the relevant documents and related information they are looking for. The speed and ease of Endeca technology will provide a terrific user experience and unprecedented success in discovering relevant and useful results."
