CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - April 5, 2004 -- Endeca, a leading provider of advanced search and Guided Navigation solutions, announced today that the company has named Sean Alger as general manager of Endeca's Federal Sales Group. In his new role, Alger will spearhead Endeca's push into the Federal government, leveraging his deep knowledge of the unique needs of the intelligence community, defense agencies and other key public sector organizations. His primary task: duplicate the rapid success Endeca has achieved in other key verticals like business-to-consumer and business-to-business e-commerce, financial services and information publishing.
Next-generation information discovery and retrieval technology is of critical importance to local, state and federal agencies as they attempt to boost intelligence capabilities. Evidence of this demand can be seen in the recent multi-million dollar investments in Endeca and other cutting-edge information management companies by In-Q-Tel, the CIA's independent, nonprofit technology arm, tasked with discovering technologies that could prove useful to U.S. national security.
Alger was previously vice president and general manager, Federal Sales and Services for rival enterprise search provider, Convera Corp. (NASDAQ: CNVR), where he grew the company's Federal business by 230 percent in two years. Prior to Convera, Alger held a number of key Federal sales positions including vice president and general manager for MicroStrategy's North American Federal Group and co-founder Integrated Federal Systems.
The newly created position is the latest example of Endeca's aggressive strategy to expand its government business. Other recent highlights include:
"Information discovery and retrieval solutions are playing an increasingly critical role in helping intelligence, law enforcement and defense organizations quickly and efficiently capitalize on the wealth of information at their disposal," said Sean Alger, general manager, Federal Sales for Endeca. "Endeca's innovative technology, its dedication to consistently meeting - and surpassing -- customer expectations, and ringing endorsements from organizations like In-Q-Tel provide the solid foundation needed to succeed and grow in this highly demanding market."
"Sean Alger has an impressive track record of attracting and winning significant Federal accounts by delivering solutions that meet the unique, mission-critical needs of the customer," said Jim Baum, president and COO of Endeca. "We are confident that the combination of Endeca's advanced search and navigation solutions and Sean's knowledge of the market will greatly accelerate Endeca's growth in the Federal marketplace."
