Endeca Named a Top Private Company by AlwaysOn

Next-Generation Search, Navigation Leader Recognized for Rapid Customer Growth, Innovative Approach to Improving Information Access

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and PALO ALTO, Calif., July 7, 2004 -- AlwaysOn, the media company that covers innovation in technology and business, has named Endeca (www.endeca.com) to its AO 100 Top Private Companies listing. The list was compiled by AlwaysOn editors, with assistance from KPMG's emerging business practice, KPMG 1Start. The two groups surveyed more than 1,000 venture investors, investment bankers, top entrepreneurs and executives. More than 700 companies were nominated for the competition. Endeca, a leading provider of advanced search and Guided Navigation solutions for the enterprise, was selected for its rapid customer and revenue growth, as well as its innovative, market-changing approach to information discovery and retrieval.

"Private company innovation is incredibly strong and continues to flourish. Over 50 of last year's AO100 companies returned to this year's list and 50 new companies have been selected that are well positioned to significantly contribute to the second-generation of the Internet," notes Tony Perkins, AlwaysOn founder.

The companies behind this year's two most highly anticipated IPOs -- Google and Salesforce.com -- headlined the AO 100 list in 2003.

Endeca Search and Guided Navigation solutions help knowledge-centric organizations in government, financial services, manufacturing, information publishing, business-to-business commerce and retail maximize the value of their content, catalog and enterprise information assets. Endeca is used worldwide in a wide range of enterprise and customer applications including Knowledge Management, CRM, customer and employee self-service, analytics, catalogs, directories, and portal integration.

The AO100 companies will be honored at a reception during the upcoming AO2004: The Innovation Summit to be held July 13-15 at Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center on the Stanford University Campus.
