CAMBRIDGE, Mass., September 19, 2006 -- Endeca, a next-generation information access company, today announced that IBM Global Business Services (GBS) has deployed the Endeca Information Access Platform (IAP) to support its new, self-service business intelligence (BI) application. IBM built the application to give its business consultants better real-time analysis of project metrics and data. As a result, these capabilities will be available to a wider range of partners, project managers, and support personnel.

The solution is evidence of a recent trend in information access technologies. In the March 2006 report entitled, "Information Access Predictions 2006-2007," leading independent analyst firm IDC predicted that, "a new wave of investment in business intelligence applications will appear as demand grows for 'BI for the masses,' requiring more scalable applications with easier-to-use interfaces."

"IBM's new self-service business intelligence application will help guide our consultants to answer open-ended questions that vary from user to user," said Patrick Howard, Partner, IBM GBS. "The primary benefit of the Endeca platform is the flexible underlying architecture and the interactive user experience it makes possible."

The Endeca IAP is designed for access to and analysis of enterprise data and content by a large user base. It integrates search, Guided Navigation®, presentation and interactive reporting features into a zero-training user experience, providing new abilities to quickly find, analyze and understand enterprise information, while increasing user adoption. The platform introduces a new kind of architecture that enables businesses to unite disparate enterprise information spread across multiple enterprise applications, file systems and other content repositories without the need for time-intensive integration efforts. In addition, the Endeca IAP ensures that as data structures and business processes change over time, applications built on the platform adjust automatically without the need to manually reconfigure the application or data models. As a result, businesses can increase user adoption of BI applications, while reducing ongoing maintenance costs or dependence on IT for custom reporting.

"This latest IBM application is a great example of new types of innovative, high-value information access applications -- applications that would either have been impossible to build before or that would have been far too complex to maintain," said Steve Papa, chief executive officer, Endeca. "As a result you can extend power-user-like capabilities out to the widest possible audience while relieving the strain on those responsible for developing and maintaining the applications."
