CAMBRIDGE, Mass. AND HAMILTON, Ontario -- October 6, 2006 -- McMaster University Libraries announced today the first Canadian library initiative to develop a revolutionary new online catalog, based on the Endeca Information Access Platform (IAP), that eclipses earlier approaches to online catalogs.
With a long-standing reputation as Canada's "most innovative" university, McMaster has pioneered a number of programs that have changed how professors teach and students learn. This new OPAC will take advantage of a range of information access capabilities available in the Endeca IAP, including search, Guided Navigation® -- a form of faceted navigation -- and context-sensitive presentation. Students and other patrons will be able to interchangeably search and browse the University's vast collection of materials and information in unprecedented ways. The project, which is slated to start this month will be the first of its kind in Canada.
