CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts and LONDON, UK -- July 18, 2007 -- Endeca Technologies, Inc., an enterprise information access software company, today announced that Emap Consumer Media, one of the UK's largest publishing and media companies, is using the Endeca Information Access Platform (IAP) to boost the user experience and increase page views for its www.motorcyclenews.com (MCN) and www.todaysgolfer.co.uk Web sites.
This development is part of Emap's strategic move to invest in technologies that improve user interaction and e-commerce activity while giving the publisher new revenue streams from its digital brands.
Angus Swan, Technical Lead for the project at Emap, explains why his company selected Endeca: "Attracting and retaining customers who are passionate about their hobbies requires more than just good content. We needed to create an experience that would allow people to find the content they wanted while also encouraging discovering valuable new, compelling information of interest -- information they might not even know existed."
Since deploying the Endeca IAP, both Web sites have seen dramatic improvements in terms of site visits and usage patterns.
MCN, widely regarded as the world's leading online source for biking news, has more than 330,000 registered users. Today the site generates more than five million page impressions per month, a five-fold increase since using the Endeca solution. In addition, search activity on MCN has tripled as a direct result of customers staying longer and going deeper into the site's content.
The Today's Golfer Web site, officially re-launched in March 2007, has already tripled the number of registered users to more than 100,000 and is now experiencing over two and half million page views per month.
Endeca's technology integrates user-friendly information access features like search and Endeca's signature Guided Navigation capabilities to encourage user exploration and discovery, leading to a better, more relevant and ultimately more fulfilling user experience. In addition, Endeca's technology provides the tools and capabilities to set up and deliver contextually relevant advertising and promotional content, leading to more targeted promotions and greater content consumption.
Swan adds: "By enabling customers to carry out quicker and more intelligent searches, Endeca has made it easier for them to find the information that they're after -- whether they're planning on making a purchase, locating a review or accessing reader-generated content. Traditional search engines don't give users the capability to search for information in an intuitive way which means on content-rich sites like ours there could be lots of engaging material, but most visitors might never find it."
