CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — January 28, 2008 — Endeca Technologies, Inc., an information access software company, today announced the appointment of Joel P. Friedman to the company's board of directors. A former executive and member of the board of directors at Accenture, Friedman will be Chairman of the Endeca Governance Committee. He joins renowned strategist Michael Porter and enterprise software veteran Edwin Gillis as independent members of Endeca's board of directors.

"Endeca represents a disruptive force in established markets like enterprise search and information access, and has already played a key role in expanding the very definition of these dynamic, high-growth markets," said Friedman. "But this rapid success represents only a fraction of the ultimate potential of the company and its technology. Endeca’s exponential growth in areas historically associated with database and business intelligence technology points to a much larger, emerging opportunity for a new class of infrastructure."

Joel Friedman was president of Accenture's Business Process Outsourcing organization until his retirement in 2005. He was responsible for overseeing Accenture's portfolio of BPO businesses as well as fueling new innovation and growth in BPO. He was a member of Accenture's board of directors until February 2005. Over the course of his 34 year career with Accenture, Friedman held a variety of senior leadership roles. He was a partner in Accenture's Corporate Development organization; served as managing general partner of the company's venture capital business, Accenture Technology Ventures; led Accenture's banking and capital markets industry program; and was instrumental in founding and managing Accenture's strategy consulting practice. Joel is also a member of the board of directors of SVB Financial Group (and Silicon Valley Bank), NeuStar, and the advisory board of FT Ventures. He also serves on the boards of directors of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area and Community Gatepath, a Northern California nonprofit agency serving adults and children with disabilities.

Joel holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

"Adding an accomplished leader like Joel Friedman will add a new dimension to our leadership team," said Steve Papa, CEO of Endeca. "His unparalleled experience will be a tremendous asset as we expand our enterprise presence and our product increasingly takes on the characteristics of enterprise infrastructure. With his success and renowned leadership at Accenture, Joel will be a guiding force as we expand our partnerships with the world’s most influential systems integrators."
