Information access applications
Applications are tailor-built on the Information Access Platform to meet the use cases you identify for the people who need to explore your data. Based on the Guided Summarization experience, they provide an iterative dialogue by allowing arbitrary filtering, such as dimensional navigation, search, and geo-spatial. Then those results are instantly summarized, guiding users through their next steps.
These summaries include familiar charts and graphs. They also include a new class of summaries designed by Endeca for the data exploration process, including Guided Navigation®, dynamic tag clouds, concept clustering, and more.
An adaptive application components library makes development cost-effective for IT. Earlier technologies require application developers to write complex, rigid, and expensive queries to approximate similar applications, creating high TCO and risk. Endeca pushes this work out of the application tier and into the MDEX Engine, leading to quick launches, and easily accommodating change over time.
Endeca Information Access Platform
The MDEX Engine™: A new class of database optimized for access to information. Its patented architecture consists of a flexible data model, summarizing query mechanism, and proprietary data-management algorithms that together provide interactive summaries of diverse and complex data and content.
Information Transformation Layer: Unites and enriches disparate sources of information while maintaining, augmenting, and even creating structures across the data and content.
Adaptive Application Component Library: Enables the rapid development of information access applications.
Web-based Management Suite: Empowers business users to highlight the right information at the right time to end users through adaptive presentation rules.
Enterprise-class platform: These capabilities are delivered as an enterprise-class platform, with the scalability, reliability, and security that leading organizations demand.
Information sources
The need to explore information creates new demands on enterprise content. People exploring information cannot know in advance the types of queries they will make, which means users won't know which systems might hold the information they want, and enterprises can't rely on advance data modeling to optimize performance.
Earlier approaches like RDBMS and search artificially classify data as structured or unstructured. But processing power, memory, and storage capacity have increased a million-fold since they were architected in the 1970s, so Endeca's approach can go beyond those long-standing constraints.
Accommodates complex schemas without extensive modeling: Endeca's flexible schema lets each record and document maintain its own unique structure, similar to XML. With no need for an overarching schema, simple mapping replaces detailed modeling. Furthermore, any individual record can have arbitrary complexity — be it highly dimensional, containing multi-assign fields, or having large amounts of unstructured text.
Accommodates change: The flexible schema allows for seamless changes in the underlying data, or even underlying data schemas. Data modelers avoid the pains of dimensional modeling or having to tweak an overarching table structure to maintain performance.
